Stories from the Arctic: Contestations of knowledge,
change and the enactment of in/vulnerability

The Arctic has been named the Ground Zero of anthropogenic climate change. In this paper I wonder how it is that in the Arctic, climate change is experienced by some and not by others. While climate change is a pressing issue for some Yupik people on the coast of Alaska, it is not equally present for Yupik further inland, or to Sami on another Arctic coast, in Northern Fennoscandia. This comparison between the Sami and the Yupik, is included because I am curious about how climate change becomes an established fact in one place and not another, but also, I am curious about what goes on in conversations about climate change between Arctic peoples and scientists, how facts are produced in the two knowledges, how they rub, and often clash, and how the two can possibly interact in a postcolonial climate contexts
